Best feats for Warlock in Baldur’s Gate 3

Channel your inner Cthulhu.

Warlock is one of the more unique spellcasters in Baldur’s Gate 3. Flirting a bit with the wild side, this class and its three subclasses have a target patron or deity they follow. With how potent and often fragile this class can be, there are some feats that work better for the Warlock in Baldur’s Gate 3 than others.

Best Warlock feats in Baldur’s Gate 3

No matter if you are The Old One, a Fiend, or Archfey Warlock, you’ll obtain a feat every four levels with this class for a grand total of three at max. You have to choose quite carefully from among the many feats existing in the game, but here are the ones you should consider if you want to do your best as a Warlock in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Ability Improvement

This straightforward feat lets you pick either one ability (a.k.a. stat) to increase by two points or two abilities with one point each. You can use this to boost your main Wisdom and Charisma stats, or improve a weak but necessary stat like Constitution.

Crossbow Expert

The Warlock, like other magical classes, has few weapons you can use outside of your spells. Inevitably you’ll run out of spell slots, so the light crossbow is one of the premier weapons of choice for a Warlock. Crossbow Expert improves your sharpshooting skills by ensuring you can even hit enemies without worry of a disadvantage up close. No need to worry about poor accuracy when monsters start charging at you in close-range with this feat.

Durable

Warlock is one of the weaker classes in this game in terms of health, so Durable is a nice way to offset that. You get one extra point towards your Constitution, which determines your overall health. In addition, you recover full hit points every time you take a short rest, instead of the usual half or so.

Elemental Adept

This is a handy feat for a Warlock. With it, you get to pick one of the five core elements, including cold and lightning, to become an expert in. From now on, whenever you use a spell of that particular element, enemies are unable to resist it no matter how strong they are. I recommend choosing an element you use the most and picking it to specialize in.

Magic Initiate: Cleric, Druid, or Wizard

Baldur’s Gate 3 offers players the chance to pick a feat that grants them spells from other classes. You get to choose two cantrips and one spell from that class, almost like you’re picking it as a secondary class for your character. While there are quite a few options, I suggest the Cleric, Druid, or Wizard for Warlocks.

For the Cleric, having the ability to heal yourself and teammates is essential to survival. Any healing spells like Healing Word is a must. For Druid, Speak With Animals opens you up to a whole new world of possibilities. You’ll be able to chat with random squirrels and secretive oxen to find out about their mysterious and often hilarious lives.

Lastly, if you opt for the Wizard side, I suggest grabbing a spell like Find Familiar. With it, you’ll be able to summon an ally like a rat or spider to help out in fights. Every extra turn you can squeeze out of your team helps.

Resilient

With the Resilient feat, you can pick any ability (think stat like Constitution) to gain an extra point in. In addition, you’ll also have proficiency when it comes to saving throws for that particular stat. Pick an ability you struggle with or have quite low and you’ll suddenly clean up one of your greatest weaknesses, making it easier to stay alive in battles.

Spell Sniper

With this feat, players get an extra cantrip to learn, so you can use it to learn one you don’t currently know. More importantly, you also have a better chance at landing critical hits with your spells. Suddenly those extra hits with Eldritch Blast become even deadlier with the higher chance of a critical hit.

Tough

It’s no secret the Warlock class doesn’t have the most hit points by default. As such, Tough is a welcome feat for gaining two health points for every level you gain in this game. Depending on your level, that can even mean surviving an extra turn or two at minimum.

War Caster

One of the most annoying circumstances to happen in battle is for an enemy to run up to you as a Warlock and hit you in close-range. Try to run away and they’ll hit you again for free. Try to cast some spells up close and your accuracy will be garbage. War Caster fixes part of this issue by letting you hit an enemy who tries to run away from you with Shocking Grasp.

In addition, you’ll gain the Advantage on any saving throws so you can keep concentrating on your spells. This way, you’ll have fewer surprises.

In reality, Warlocks can only pick up to three feats in Baldur’s Gate 3 total over their lifetime. You could get Ability Improvement twice, but the three I would go with for some diversity are Ability Improvement, Spell Sniper, and War Caster. You make up for some of the flimsier parts of Warlock, while greatly improving your damage and critical hit possibilities.
