Crazy Destiny 2 theory suggests an unexpected throwback Alpha Lupi

The Alpha Lupi dreams again.

Following-up the big reveal of the upcoming The Final Shape DLC, Bungie unveiled Season of the Witch in Destiny 2. This seasonal batch of content brings some interesting new gameplay and gear, as well as some interesting new lore. One particularly notable highlight came about as part of the latest Veil Containment mission, wherein Osiris elegantly connected some of the game’s latest story beats with Bungie’s first official Destiny ARG: the Alpha Lupi.

Bungie’s attempt at bringing Alpha Lupi back into relevance

As plainly outlined by Redditor Elitegamez11 on the biggest Destiny lore discussion subreddit, the new Season 22 Veil Containment mission explained how the Witness opened the ominous triangle-shaped portal in front of the Traveler. Specifically, Osiris’ latest telemetry suggests that the Witness has opened a gateway directly into the Traveler’s mind. Now it’s presumably doing something ominous to bring its plans to fruition. Another Redditor, jamesjamez69, noted that this means The Final Shape would likely take Guardians through the dreams of Alpha Lupi.

Alpha Lupi is a relatively obscure name for the Traveler itself. While Bungie ended up scraping information about its old Alpha Lupi ARG a few years back, the unofficial Destinypedia page still holds records as to how the whole shindig went down. In short, the ARG consisted of numerous cryptic messages and poems. Destiny fans haven’t really known what to make of this information since.

Now, it seems the dreams of Alpha Lupi are what Guardians will explore over the course of The Final Shape. We don’t know if Bungie will deliver with the game’s 2024 DLC release, of course. But this small throwback should hopefully excite old Destiny veterans.
