You’ll need this for armor upgrades
Amber is an ore in Tears of the Kingdom that can upgrade your armor. It is quite troublesome to find, however. You’ll need to dive into caves to search for this material. Here are some of the best ways to farm Amber in Tears of the Kingdom.
Where to find Amber in Tears of the Kingdom
Finding Amber in Tears of the Kingdom can be a pain. Firstly, you’ll need to break rocks to receive the ore. In order to find these rocks, look within caves throughout Hyrule. You can also go down certain wells to spot them. I’ve found a few spots that help me gather Amber relatively quickly.
- Pondside Cave (0259, -1620, 1368) in the Great Sky Island
- Sahasra Slope Cave (1368, -1192, 0133) just below the Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower
- Fort Hateno Cave (2243, -1689, 0026), which is northeast of the Dueling Peaks Stable
- Hateno Village West Well / Hateno Village East Well (3417, -2083, 0104)
Once you’ve arrived at these locations, look for rocks that are sparkling silver or gold. Now, equip your hammer and begin to strike them. Axes can also be used but they’re less effective. Try to get a stick and fuse it with a nearby rock if you can. The rock clusters will crumble to the ground, revealing the bright orange Amber. You may also get Sapphire or Ruby if the rock has a shiny golden sparkle. Fingers crossed!
The fastest way to gather Amber
Despite getting a decent amount of Amber in Tears of the Kingdom by breaking rocks, you’ll earn even more by finding a Battle Talus. They’re monsters disguised as camps for beasts roaming around Hyrule.
To defeat them, hit or aim towards a rock on its head. Similar to Shadow of the Colossus, try to climb it and then get a few strikes on its weak point before it launches you off. Battle Taluses will drop around 8-10 Amber rocks upon defeat. To get you started, I found a Battle Talus nearby the Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower.

You’ll need Amber to upgrade many armor pieces in Tears of the Kingdom. They include:
- Cap of Time
- Tunic of Time
- Trousers of Time
- Amber Earrings
- Hylian Trousers
- Soldier’s Helm
- Hylian Hood
- Hylian Tunic
- Soldier’s Armor
- Soldier’s Greaves
