In just a few days, a space adventure years in the making will be available. As the release date draws nearer, there’s been a live-action trailer released, and preloading has opened for those on Xbox, while Steam players will have to wait until August 30.

Before you embark on your intergalactic journey, it’s useful to get a good idea of what humanity is facing in the Settled Systems. Throughout your playthrough, you’ll encounter plenty of barren planets and moons, but there are also populated settlements where you can stock up on resources, meet companions, or interact with the various factions and life forms. The following settlements have been confirmed for Starfield.

All confirmed settlements in Starfield

To travel between different settlements, you’ll have to hop into your spacecraft. As trailers have been revealed, navigating and maintaining your spacecraft is a somewhat complicated process that can involve a whole crew. These are some of the locations you can expect to visit:

Akila City

Akila City is the Freestar Collective’s capital. The Freestar Collective is a loose confederation of three star systems. You’ll find the city on the planet of the same name in the Cheyenne system. Not much is known about this planet, though developer commentary has revealed that outside the walls of the city, you run the risk of encountering deadly predators known as Ashta.

Neon

Neon is another settlement located in the Freestar Collective’s space, and Bethesda has described it as a “pleasure city”. You’ll find it on a watery planet where the Xenofresh Corporation catches psychotropic fish. The drug produced, called Aurora, is only legal on Neon, and people come from all around to experience it.

Cydonia

Our humble solar system will be explorable in Starfield, and you’ll even be able to visit Mars. The red planet features Cydonia, a mining facility belonging to the United Colonies, which is one of the factions you’ll encounter. It sounds like there’ll be a lot to do there, as lead quest designer Will Shen has described it as a “whole city with its own problems and people to meet”.

New Atlantis

For a long time, New Atlantis has been the poster child for Starfield‘s settlements. It is found on the planet Jemison in the Settled Systems, trailers reveal that it is a futuristic city with glass skyscrapers and convenient public transport. It isn’t a complete concrete jungle, as there are plenty of trees to keep the place looking lively.

According to Todd Howard, New Atlantis is the biggest city Bethesda has ever made, dwarfing anything we’ve seen in The Elder Scrolls or Fallout. New Atlantis is the capital city of the United Colonies, whose battles against the Freestar Collective led to the Colony War, though Starfield kicks off in a time of relative peace.

There are a few other locations that have been mentioned in passing. The Crimson Fleet, which is a gang of space pirates, has established “footholds in the Sagan, Cheyenne, Lunara, and Narion systems.” With over 1000 explorable planets awaiting us, there’s sure to be plenty more settlements to discover.
