LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is a ton of fun

HULK LEGO SMASH!

I am so jealous of kids growing up this day and age. They have the coolest videogame consoles, the Internet, iPads, and now LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. Combining Marvel, one of the hottest movie proprieties right now (and not to mention some awesome on-going comic series) and freaking LEGO? That’s just a perfect match made in childhood nirvana.

I’ve enjoyed the LEGO game concepts, but none of the past proprieties fusions really appealed to me since I wasn’t highly invested in DC, Star Wars, and the like. But Marvel? Yeah man, I’m going to Hulk smash all over some LEGO bricks.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii U, 3DS, PlayStation Vita, DS)
Developer: TT Games
Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Release: October 2013

The demo we were shown focused on Loki, who’s trying to steal the Tesseract. Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, The Human Torch, and Wolverine have all come together to take on Loki and the Frost Giants that have invaded Asgard.

Each character has unique abilities, and you’re going to find yourself switching it up between them all as there will be specific puzzles or hidden areas that only certain characters can get to. So for instance, some of the ice giants have encased a key object in ice, and only the Human Torch can melt the ice down with his flame powers.

It’s really cool swapping characters and making use of all their abilities from flying around shooting out beams of energy as Iron Man, to crawling on walls with Spider-Man, to throwing around MJOLNIR as Thor. I especially love Wolverine as he will turn into a LEGO skeleton based on the damage he takes before regenerating his skin. Even funnier is how you can transform between Bruce Banner or the Hulk on the fly when playing as that character.

There’s a 100 playable Marvel characters on offer, and I can’t wait to play as them all, especially in the free play area of New York. This area is huge, by the way. The S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier hovers over New York, and you can jump off from here down to the city below. Everything is represented, from the Baxter Building, X-Mansion, the Raft, and more. There’s a full civilian life going on here with tons of things you’ll be able to do such as fight crime or discover new playable characters.

Speaking of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, there’s a specific room aboard the ship where Deadpool lives. You can go into his room to check out bonuses like a LEGO comic viewer, enter cheat codes, and Deadpool will break the fourth wall to tell you in-game secrets.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is just straight up pure fun. Any fans of Marvel and/or LEGO will have a blast with this one. I know I will.
