Warzone 2.0 3rd-person mode removal, explained

Activision is switching up the POV for you

Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 offers players many different perspectives and modes to enjoy its battle royale experience with. Among the duos, trios, and squads, there is also a 3rd-person mode that you can switch to. Unfortunately, the Warzone 2.0 3rd-person mode was quietly removed from the battle royale title without an explanation from Activision.

Warzone 2.0 3rd-person mode removed

If you hop into Warzone 2.0 right now, you’ll, unfortunately, find that your options for battle royale are sorely limited right now. The typical game modes of solos, duos, trios, and squads are all here. In addition, DMZ is still around, but there is one key missing aspect: 3rd-person mode.

Recently, it came to the community’s attention, as noted by Call of Duty Twitch streamer Modern Warzone on Twitter, that the popular 3rd-person playlist is no longer part of the game. Activision and developer Raven Software continuously change up the playlists offered each week, and this over-the-shoulder point-of-view hasn’t made the cut for a few weeks now.

This is far from the first time that 3rd-person mode has been removed from Warzone 2.0. The common thread in both occurrences was no explanation from Activision regarding the removal in the first place. There are a couple of possible reasons behind the removal that we can speculate on.

First off, there is the chance that there is some sort of bug or glitch that is causing the 3rd-person perspective to not be viable at this moment. These types of glitches are quite common, as seen in the recent train invincibility glitch, so there is a chance that something like that caused its removal.

On the other hand, it could be that Activision is trying to keep the playlists fresh and interesting. It is possible that various playlists, like 3rd-person mode, are being cycled out occasionally in favor of other playlists. Unfortunately, it is hard to say which is the case here, especially since 3rd-person perspective doesn’t appear on the official Warzone 2.0 bug Trello page. This seemingly hints that there are no real issues with the mode at this time.

When can you expect the third-person POV back?

Since there is no word on any known issues with Warzone 2.0’s 3rd-person mode, it seems that this was an intentional decision to shake up the playlists every week. After all, it isn’t the first time this has happened, according to Twitter, since the battle royale sequel came out. As such, there is no telling when Activision will bring back the 3rd-person perspective.

It is possible that it could show up in the next week’s set of playlists, for instance. Or it could, worst case scenario, return in the delayed Warzone 2.0 Season 2. Until then, I recommend trying out DMZ or 3rd-Person Moshpit in Modern Warfare 2 as a solid alternative.
