Disney Illusion Island marks a new chapter in the rich legacy of Disney platformers. Rather than taking inspiration from retro classics like Castle of Illusion or The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse, Disney Illusion Island focuses more on exploration and finding secrets to collect. As a result, you may feel a bit confused by how long this game really is.
In my personal playthrough, I was able to complete the main story in around eight hours. After I went back and finished collecting everything the game hides, my playtime jumped to just under ten hours. The game does hide one tough way to replay the game if you truly want to master Disney Illusion Island. If you feel up to the challenge, you can get some extra hours in the game that way. Otherwise, you can absolutely crush this game in a weekend if you marathon it.
Since Disney illusion Island features 4-player co-op, you may find replay value in experiencing this game with friends or family. It also has an MSRP of $39.99, making it a bit cheaper than the usual $59.99 or $69.99 game you’d find. The game’s value per dollar is ultimately up to you, especially if you’d prefer a shorter game. Either way, know that you’ll see all the sights and sounds in roughly ten hours.
Bonus animation
As an aside, Disney Illusion Island does contain roughly 35 minutes of fully voiced, fully animated cutscenes. After you finish the game, you can rewatch these at any time via the Gallery menu. For a small child that loves Disney and/or cartoons, these could add some longevity to the game in their own way.
Sure, it won’t quite replace a proper cartoon. But if you’re on a roadtrip and only have your Nintendo Switch on you, these can provide some easy entertainment in a pinch.
