Featuring Battle of Olympus and Ragtime.
Greetings fellow music lovers,
for the ending of the easter period we have a look at one of the forgotten gems of the NES Library: Battle of Olympus (1989). Similar in style to Nintendos Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link it features Orpheus from the greek myth who tries to get back his girlfriend from the clutches of Hades ( but unlike the myth resorts to a rather militant solution ). The song you will hear most often game is the song "Arcadian Green Fields" which can be regarded as the overworld map theme in some way:
There are several old ragtime songs from the beginning of the 20th century that have similar tone and progression to this one.
Vincenzo Luzerno - "Maxixe Briolette" (1914):
Charles Roth - "Virginia Creeper Rag" (1909):
Maybe also:
John Neat - "Pleasure Land" (1912):
It might be possible that this can be traced back to the romantic era of music.
Maybe next week some more well known game.
Phil out.
